Men's Tennis Completes Day One of ITA Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. The NC State men’s tennis team finished the first day of the Wilson/ITA Mideast Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Thursday, Oct. 16. Redshirt freshman Julian Sullivan and freshman Akash Gujarati each advanced to the round of 32, before falling to their respective opponents.
After Gujarati advanced in the tournament, Zach Watson of Radford took him down, 6-1, 6-1. Sullivan fell to Ike Belk of Clemson, 0-6, 6-4, 6-1, in the round of 32.
Sophomore Rob Lowe lost to Doug Kenny (Georgia Tech), 7-6, 6-3, in the first round of play, and redshirt freshman Eric Turner fell to Plamen Tzvetkov of Coastal Carolina, 6-3, 6-1.
Lowe and Gujarati also competed in doubles play, but fell to Igor Ogrizek and Zach Watson of Radford, 8-4, in the first round.
Seniors Jay Weinacker, Christian Welte, and Derek Stephens, as well as sophomore David Chermak, Sullivan, and freshman Jaime Pulgar will compete in the main singles draw on Oct. 17. Live tournament results can be found here.
