BC Edges NC State With First Half Goal

RALEIGH, N.C. Caitlin Hiler scored in the 12th minute and that held up as the only goal of the match for No. 14 Boston College in a 1-0 win over NC State on Sunday afternoon at NC State Soccer Stadium.
Brooke Knowlton sent a cross from the right flank that found the foot of Hiler and she lofted a shot over Wolfpack keeper Rachel Barnette into the far right corner from 15 yards out at the 11:49 mark of the first half.
That was all the visiting Eagles needed to improve to 9-3-2 on the season and 3-2-1 in the ACC. NC State dropped to 8-7 on the year and 0-5 in the league.
Briana Cunningham spelled Alex Berger in the 19th minute and that substitution nearly came to fruition just moments later, when Cunningham blasted a shot inches over the cross bar that would have tied the match.
Barnette made seven saves overall in net for the Pack, including a couple tough ones down the stretch to keep the match tight.
Jillian Mastroianni hauled in two saves to post the shutout for BC.
The Wolfpack hosts North Carolina Friday at 7 p.m. from NC State Soccer Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on ACCSelect.com.
