Stephens Impressive at ITA All-American

Junior Derek Stephens made an impressive run through the pre-qualifying draw of the ITA All-American and will now join teammates Nick Cavaday and Jay Weinacker in the qualifying draw starting Monday morning in Tulsa, Okla.
Stephens won three matches over the weekend, and will face Marc Rocafort of MTSU on Monday in his first match of the qualifying draw.
Stephens got his day started with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Hendrik Stahmer of Nebraska in the second round before facing J.C. Whitner of conference foe, Miami. Stephens defeated Whitner in two tough sets, 6-4, 7-5.
In the fourth round with a spot in the qualifying round at stake, Stephens would battle back from a set down to triumph. Hubert Chodkiewicz of Texas won the first set, 6-4, before Stephens regrouped and won the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Cavaday, the No. 8 seed in the draw, will face Buno Alcala of Arizona tomorrow afternoon.
Weinacker will face Nate Schnugg of Georgia, the No. 11 seed in the draw, earlier in the day.
