W. Tennis Opens Play at St. Mary's Invitational

Doubles play took place Friday in Knoxville, Tenn. as the NC State women's tennis team participated in the three-day event. Sophomores Berkeley Brock and Catherine Grotz won their doubles match in the opening round for the Wolfpack.
Brock/Grotz took down a pair from ACC rival Wake Forest, Poske/Tara, with an 8-3 win before falling in the second round to Notre Dame duo Ciobanu/Rafael that went on to win the Flight Two Doubles bracket. Brock and Grotz did win their consolation match, 8-5, over Stupak/Batsula of ETSU.
Kristen Bleakley and Neils Barringer teamed up and fell in the opening round to Meredith/Alda of Tennessee, 8-6, but won their first consolation match against MTSU's Kommireddi/Herre, 8-3. They lost in the consolation championship of Flight Three to Wooten/Craven of Purdue.
The singles bracket begins play with two matches before the finals on Sunday.
