
Joanna Saleeby Finishes Third at NC State Amateur

SANFORD, N.C. Joanna Saleeby, a rising red-shirt sophomore on the NC State women’s golf team, finished third at the 58th North Carolina Women's State Amateur Championship hosted at the Par 72, 5,867-yard Carolina Trace Country Club.
Saleeby was in second after the first day of competition with a one-over 73. She ultimately dropped one place to third with a three-round score of +9 (73-75-77=225).
Rising sophomores Emily Street, Kathleen Strandberg and Kristen Vincent finished tied for fifth, ninth and tied for 15th respectively in the championship flight. Street was four shots in back of Saleeby at +13 (79-75-75=229), while Strandberg finished at +16 (75-81-76=232) and Vincent wound up at +24 (79-80-81=240).
Incoming freshman Julie Saleeby, younger sister of the aforementioned Joanna, had a nice tied for 10th place showing at +17 (78-74-81=233).
Sophomore to be Cindel Gwyn finished first in Flight 1 with a 54-hole score of +24 (91-72-77=240).
Maggie Simons of Raleigh won the event at +2, five strokes ahead of Raleigh’s Katie Brenny.
The 2008 championship will be held at Sapona Country Club in Lexington, N.C.
Players were flighted after the second round.
