Turner Inks with Men's Tennis

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's tennis head coach Jon Choboy announced the signing of Eric Turner on Tuesday, May 1, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on the NC State campus. A native of Boone, N.C., Turner will enroll at NC State as a true freshman next fall. Currently a senior at Watauga High in Boone, Turner comes in as a highly touted prospect with a wealth of potential.
"Eric is a very tough competitor," said Choboy. "He is one of the best players in the south and he has his best tennis ahead of him.
"With his character and work ethic, he will help the Wolfpack take the next step."
Turner won a bronze ball at the 2006 Winter Supernationals in doubles and was ranked No. 123 nationally, as well as No. 14 in the south, at the end of the 2006 season.
Aside from Turner's game, Choboy is also excited to add another homegrown talent.
"We place a very big emphasis on recruiting the state of North Carolina in this program, " said Choboy. "Adding another young talent from this great state is something that we are very proud of."
Turner spent the previous school year at Heritage Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., perfecting his game at nearby Smith Stearns Tennis Academy under the tutelage of Stan Smith and Billy Stearns.
