Track Picks up More NCAA Regional Qualifying Marks

Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State track and field squads split up again this past weekend and sent athletes to two different meets. Some went to North Carolina A&T to compete in the Aggie Relays, while others went to Durham to take part in the Duke Invitational. The men’s throwers brought home a pair of NCAA Regional qualifying marks, while the women’s side recorded one in the 1,500 meters.
At the Duke Invite, NC State’s men’s team had two NCAA Regional marks. In the shot put, Mitchell Pope recorded his fourth NCAA Regional qualifying mark in as many meets. Pope easily won the shot put with a top heave of 61’02.25”, giving him four wins on four tries for the outdoor season. Also in the shot put, Chris Crawford placed second (51’11.75”) and Jason Jones was third (51’08.50”). Crawford recorded his own NCAA Regional qualifying mark, as he also finished second in the hammer with a season-best toss of 187’09”.
In the long jump, Dexter Adams recorded a mark of 23’11” for third place.
Chris Kollar just missed a NCAA Regional time in the 1,500 meters by under a second, as he took fifth with his time of 3:47.91. In the 3,000 meters, it was Fredy Torres in fifth (8:22.27) and Robert Bedsole in 10th (8:29.01).
Over at the Aggie Relays, Kevin Hutton also narrowly missed a NCAA Regional time in the 400 meter hurdles, as his time of 52.92 was also less than a second away from the qualifying mark. Eric Davis set a season-high, by clearing 6-04.50” in the high jump. Adams competed in the long jump, as was second with a mark of 23’06.75”.
At Duke on the women’s side, Jemissa Hess recorded a NCAA Regional qualifying time in the 1,5000 meters, as she ran a 4:26.72 for seventh. Also in that race, Angelina Blackmon ran a 4:31.96. In the 800 meters, Blackmon placed third in 2:11.49, while Hess was close behind in fourth (2:11.58).
Kara McKenna ran the steeplechase in 11:05.26 for eighth place, while Jenn Ennis was sixth in the 3,000 meters in 10:21.82. Anne Wheatly ran the 5,000 meters in 17:02.70 for an 11th place showing.
