Track and Field Competes at Penn Relays

Raleigh, N.C. The NC State track and field squads traveled to one of the top track meets of the outdoor season this weekend, the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
DeMiracle Washington had the top finish on the women’s side, as she finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 40’02”. Jemissa Hess placed 13th in the mile with a time of 4:46.09.
In the other distance events, Kara McKenna was 12th in the steeplechase with a time of 11:13.52, and Jennifer Ennis was 25th in the 3,000 meters (10:08.12). In the 5,000 meters, Brittany Tinsley was 19th (17:03.00), and Amy Kelly was 22nd (17:26.82).
The men’s team brought home a total of three NCAA Regional qualifying times, one in the 5,000 meters and two in the steeplechase.
Tibor Vegh brought home a fourth place showing in the 5,000 meters, running a 14:01.19. In the steeplechase, John Martinez was sixth in 9:03.39, while Gavin Coombs was close behind in seventh (9:06.50). Martinez notched his fourth NCAA Regional qualifying time of the season, while Coombs posted his second.
Other results in the 5,000 meters saw Bryce Ruiz take 16th (14:14.72), Stephen Furst was 17th (14:16.25), and Fredy Torres was 22nd (14:27.07).
In the non-distance events, Reggie Reese was 13th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.76, while Michael Hill was 18th in the triple jump with a top mark of 46’09.50”.
The Pack will have three athletes in action tomorrow at Stanford. Julia Lucas and John Crews will run in the 5,000 meters, while Chris Kollar will compete in the 1,5000 meters.
