RALEIGH, N.C. - For the second straight week and fourth time this season, NC State’s Abbie Sims has been selected as the ACC Softball Player of the Week. Sims tossed a perfect game and two other complete-game shutouts en route to helping NC State to a perfect 5-0 week. The Pack (39-16 / 13-5 ACC) is currently riding a school-record 15-game winning streak.
The Artesia, N.M., senior opened the week by throwing her second career perfect game at Campbell, striking out 14. She capped off the week by shutting out No. 22 North Carolina twice in two days, allowing just eight hits over 14 innings. Sims (24-5) has now tossed four-straight complete game shutouts, two of which have been no-hitters.
The ACC accolade marks the eighth time that Sims has received the honor during her illustrious career at NC State.
NC State will take a few days off as exams begin on campus. Next weekend, however, the Pack will wrap up its regular season with a final ACC contest at Maryland in College Park, Md. The Pack and Terps will square off for two games on Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., before the wrap-up bout at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 29.
