RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State head softball coach Lisa Navas and her squad will toss out a ceremonial first pitch on Wednesday, April 4, between games of a doubleheader at Peace College. The Peace College softball team will host a “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” in conjunction with their scheduled doubleheader versus cross-town rival Meredith College.
The “Pacers Go Pink Game” will be played at Wachovia Athletic Park, located on the campus of Peace College in downtown Raleigh. Play begins at 3 p.m., with the second game starting at 5 p.m. For directions to the event, visit www.gopeacepacers.org.
Coach Navas and her 2006 ACC Championship Wolfpack softball team will serve as special guests, throwing out a "first pitch to strikeout cancer" between games at approximately 5 p.m. Other activities scheduled include guest appearances by Wool E. Bull, the popular Durham Bulls mascot, as well as Stormy of the Carolina Hurricanes. Concessions will be available with proceeds going directly to the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Spectators are asked to wear pink clothing to show their support of the activities, while both teams will also wear pink game jerseys. The uniforms will be auctioned off throughout the game with the proceeds also going to help find a cure for cancer. Admission for the event is free.
NC State will return to the road in the coming week for two series, including an ACC road bout. The Pack will travel to Radford for two games at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, before heading to Chestnut Hill, Mass. for three games against Boston College. State will challenge the Eagles at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, before wrapping up play on Sunday, April 8, at 1:30 p.m.
