BUIES CREEK, N.C. A two-hitter by Shaina Ervin and a two-run dinger from Jennifer Patterson helped NC State grab its school-record 12th consecutive win against Campbell, 2-0, in the second game of a doubleheader in Buies Creek on Wednesday, April 18. Ervin (12-10) tallied nine strikeouts while Brittany Stanley (9-10) took the loss for the Camels. With the win, the Pack moves to 36-16 (10-5 ACC) on the season, while Campbell falls to 24-36-1.
A two-run blast by Patterson put State up in the top of the second. Allison Presnell doubled down the left field line for the first hit of the game to lead off the inning. Two at-bats later, Patterson sent a bomb beyond the fence in left for her fourth shot of the year.
Courtney Quinn picked up the Camels first hit of the doubleheader with a line drive towards third in the bottom of the fifth. Following two outs, Stanley walked to put runners on second and first. Megan Paul then singled to right, allowing all base runners to advance. Quinn, however, continued to run in an attempt to score from second, but right fielder Ashleigh Davis had other plans. Scooping the ball off of the grass with her bare hand, Davis nailed Quinn at the plate with a laser of a throw to Patterson.
Ervin responded to the Camels fifth-inning threat by striking out the side in the sixth.
The Wolfpack will host rival North Carolina in its final home series of the season this weekend, Saturday, April 21 through Sunday, April 22. Game times are slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, with the series finale at 12 p.m. on Sunday. All games will be played at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
The Pack enters the series as the No. 3 squad in the ACC, while the Tar Heels stand at No. 2.
All nine of the Pack’s departing seniors will be recognized before first pitch on Sunday.
