BUIES CREEK, N.C. After tossing a no-hitter against Virginia this past Saturday, the only thing that Abbie Sims could’ve done to upstage her previous effort would’ve been to throw a perfect game. In the first of two contests at Campbell on Wednesday, April 18, she did just that. Fanning 14 batters through seven innings of perfection, Sims picked up her second no-hitter in as many games, as well as the second perfect game of her illustrious career as State downed the Camels 1-0. With the win, the Pack moves to 35-16 (10-5 ACC) on the season, while Campbell falls to 24-35-1. Sims’ record improves to 22-5, as Lauren Caviness falls to 12-20 in the losing effort.

The victory, the Pack's 11th-straight, ties a program record set in 2004.

The no-no marks the fourth of the year for Sims, as well as the seventh of her career. Sims tossed the only other perfect game in school history, a six-inning affair against Central Connecticut State on March 19, 2005.

The outing marks the second time that a Wolfpack hurler has thrown no-hitters in back-to-back starts. Shaina Ervin accomplished that feat by blanking Binghamton and Campbell in consecutive-appearances during the 2004 season.

Ironically enough, Ervin’s no-hitter against the Camels on April 1, 2004, was the last time before today that the Pack had played in Buies Creek, giving NC State back-to-back no-hitters on Campbell’s field.

State got the only run of the game in the top of the fifth with a two-out rally. Allison Presnell singled up the middle and then quickly stole second base before scoring on an RBI base hit to left from Shanna Smith.

Sims fanned 11-straight batters between the bottom of the first and fourth innings to get her gem moving along.

NC State and Campbell will play game two at 6 p.m.
