RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State softball will travel to Buies Creek, N.C., on Wednesday, April 18 for two games with Campbell. Game times are slated for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Currently riding a 10-game winning streak, the Pack will take the field at 34-16 (10-5 ACC) on the year. The Camels stand at 24-34-1, having lost seven of its last eight games. Live stats will be available on GoPack.com.
With a sweep of Campbell, the Pack would set a new school record for consecutive wins. The current record stands at 11-straight, coming throughout late March and early April of 2004, the program’s inaugural season.
After falling 8-0 in five innings at Virginia Tech on April 1, State has been unbeatable. Last week the Pack won seven games, taking two from both Charlotte and UNC Greensboro, before grabbing three ACC wins from UVa.
Jessica Huffman leads Campbell from the batter’s box, batting .339 with 61 hits and 42 runs scored. Shayla Cullum ranks first on the team in home runs (6) and RBIs (28).
Four hurlers make up the Camel’s pitching staff, with Lauren Caviness leading the way on a 2.20 ERA and a 12-19 record. Campbell’s pitching staff has allowed a combined 33 home runs on the season.
State leads the all-time series between the two programs, 4-0. Play between the two teams resumes after taking a hiatus last season. NC State has swept two two-game stands, taking one at Campbell in 2004 and another in Raleigh in 2005. All contests between the two teams have been close, with the Pack winning two games by one run, another by two and a fourth by four runs.
The Wolfpack will host rival North Carolina in its final home series of the season this weekend, Saturday, April 21 through Sunday, April 22. Game times are slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, with the series finale at 12 p.m. on Sunday. All games will be played at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
The Pack enters the series as the No. 3 squad in the ACC, while the Tar Heels stand at No. 2.
All nine of the Pack’s departing seniors will be recognized before first pitch on Sunday.
