GREENSBORO, N.C. – After pulling double-duty on the field and inside the circle for the No. 22 Wolfpack over the weekend, NC State’s Abbie Sims has been named the season’s first Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week.
Sims, a native of Artesia, N.M., tossed two shutouts on opening weekend for the Pack, including a no-hitter against Ohio last Friday. She allowed just two hits against Gardner-Webb, while fanning 28 batters in three appearances. She struck out the only batter that she faced against Penn State.
The senior hurler also helped pace NC State from the plate, posting a .333 clip with four hits, including a home run against Ohio and a double against Coastal Carolina on Sunday. Sims played the outfield when she wasn't pitching, starting all four contests.
Up next for the Pack is the Cox Communications Classic, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville. NC State is slated to face Marshall, Fordham, Chattanooga and host Florida in the weekend tournament.
