Junior Christian Welte and freshman Eric Turner had never played doubles together before this weekend at the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. That didn't seem to face the duo, as the defeated Mahmoud Kamel and James Lemke of Pepperdine in the Red Doubles Consolation final.
The duo were forced together after freshman Rob Lowe injured his wrist in his first round singles match Friday. Though Welte and Turner lost in their opening match, they battled back to take their match against Kamel/Lemke, 8-6.
Welte fell in singles to Jordan Delass of Samford, 6-4, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the Bryant, or Number 1, flight.
In the Stabler Singles Draw, Turner fell in his quarterfinal round match to Scott Blackmon of Ga. Tech. Turned lost the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4), before falling in a close second set, 6-4.
