Softball Wraps up Fall Ball

RALEIGH, N.C. Head coach Lisa Navas and the NC State softball program wrapped up its fall season this past weekend with four scrimmage games in Athens, Ga. The team will now focus on conditioning, as well as individual workouts, until the spring semester rolls around.
“It was a great experience for the team, especially our newcomers and freshmen,” said Navas. “We had an opportunity for competition in several positions, and players got playing time to show us what they’re capable of doing during a live-action game.”
While the coaching staff was pleased with several things over the past weekend, they found numerous areas in which the team needs improvement. True to form, Navas and staff are confident that those mistakes can be corrected.
“We saw some great things from several players, but we also saw holes and things that we need to improve upon,” said Navas. “The good thing is that all of our problems are under our control, and all of our mistakes are fixable.”
The Pack will begin its 2008 regular season on Feb. 8, taking on Kansas at the UCF Softball Tournament in Orlando, Fla. The squad will also compete at four other challenging tournaments; the FAU “Strike-Out” Cancer Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla., the College of Charleston Tournament in Charleston, S.C., the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., and the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
Feb. 27 is certain to be one of the most anticipated days in the history of the Wolfpack softball program. At 3 p.m., State will begin its first of two games against UNC Greensboro, marking the inaugural game at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium on the NC State campus.
