CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Brooke Knowlton scored two second half goals to lead the No. 14 Boston College women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over NC State at Newton Soccer Field on Sunday.
After a scoreless first half of play, Knowlton gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 50:56 mark when she picked up a loose ball and took on an NC State defender. One-on-one Knowlton pushed the ball to her right foot and took a shot from just outside the box and place it to the left of diving NC State goalkeeper Rachel Barnette, who was making her second straight start and came up with five saves.
Just nine minutes later, Knowlton took a throw-in from Brianna Wilson-Byrne and turned the ball to the middle of the field. With a NC State defender on her left, Knowlton freed up her right foot again and struck it from outside the box and to the left of the Wolfpack keeper.
In the 68th minute of play, Wilson-Byrne sent a cross to an on-coming Hannah Cerrone, who waited on the goalkeeper to move and placed it in the back of the goal for a 3-0 BC lead. It was Cerrone's first goal of the season.
Senior Kia McNeill closed out the scoring in the 71st minute.
The Eagles had 20 shots in the match, while NC State was held to six. Sophomore Katie Ruiz had two shots to lead the Pack.
BC's junior goalkeeper Sarah Buonomo had three saves, two in the first half. She is now 9-3-3 on the season and picked up her eight shutout of the season.
