RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams gave friends, family and fans a glimpse of the season ahead on Friday at the annual Red & White Scrimmage at Casey Natatorium in Raleigh. The women’s Red squad topped its White counterpart (124.5 to 111.5), while the White men’s group skirted past the Red unit by a single point (130-129). A healthy number of supporters of the program took in the action and cheered on all participants, including former Wolfpack standout Cullen Jones.
Both Red teams took first in the 200 medley relay, with Anna Linkenauger, Jessica Stewart, Brianna Grover and Lucy Lindsey leading the charge for the women, and Taylor Goodwin, Jack Roney, Stephen Mellor and Travis Martinez doing the same for the men. Linkenauger and Andrew Lester kept the momentum rolling for the Red teams, each winning the 500 free. Lindsey took the 200 free for the Red women, and Jon Vorpagel grabbed the first decision for the White men’s team in the same event.
Grover took first for the Red women in the 100 backstroke and 200 butterfly, with Kevin Woodhull-Smith taking the 100 back men’s version for the White and Mellor winning the 200 butterfly for the men. Both White teams won the 100 breast (Jess Ward and Dan Forsythe) and 50 free (Patrice Dason and Dan Glauber).
Amanda Patty (White) and Lindsey (Red) tied for first in the 100 free, while Mason McGee (White) grabbed the men’s spot.
The Red men’s roster finished first in the 200 back (Mellor), 100 butterfly (Mike Seiferth), and 200 IM (Lester), and the White team won the 200 breast (Forsythe).
The White women’s unit took first in the 200 back (Jen Kopenitz), 200 breast (Jess Ward), 100 butterfly (Dason), and 200 IM (Kopenitz). The Red squad (Lindsey, Ashley Richter, Grover and Sarah Merritt) won the 200 freestyle relay, and the White men (McGee, Andrew Keenan, Crowder, Glauber) finished out in front in its version.
In diving action, Chelsea Ale took the 1-meter for the White team, while Kristin Davies collected the 3-meter. Austin Hampton won both the 1-meter and 3-meter men’s events for the Red squad.
