Blair Lights Up Course to Lead Pack

Raleigh, N.C. – Playing in the first tournament of the 2006-07 school year, the NC State men’s golf team got off to a strong start by shooting a 3-under par (285) in the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate being held at the Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga. The Pack currently sit in third place in the 18-team field, as only four teams shot under par. The story of the day for NC State was the performance of sophomore Darren Blair who leads the entire field after one round.
Blair finished the first round at 7-under par, and is one stroke up on the competition. His score of 65 for the round ties as the second-best round in NC State school history, only behind Kelly Mitchum’s 64 in 1992. Blair finished with a total of seven birdies, and did not score below par on any hole.
Senior Jerry Richardson and freshman Brad Revell each finished with a 1-over par score of 73 on the day. Richardson shot par on every hole, except for a bogey on No. 12. Revell sank three birdies in the first round of his first collegiate tournament.
Sophomore Nathan Spoon shot a 74 for 2-over par, including two birdies. Junior Andrew Byrd rounded out the scoring with a 6-over on the day.
