NC State senior catcher Miranda Ervin picked up her second Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) All-America distinction this past Sunday, Aug. 13, collecting second-team accolades for her recent performance with the Amherst Lightning. Earlier this summer, Ervin, along with teammates Shaina Ervin and Abbie Sims, were named All-American's while winning the Women's 23-Under Fast Pitch 2006 Championship with the Virginia Legends.
A native of Huntersville, N.C., Ervin began playing summer ball in July. Her team travels carried her to destinations such as Chicago and New York. Ervin played against solid competition throughout the summer, often battling against familiar Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foes, such as Boston College's Jenna Macchi who was named first-team All-America and led the Stratford Brakettes to its 27th ASA title. Ervin also encountered other standouts from major collegiate softball programs such as Michigan and UCLA. Her sister, Shaina, played alongside her with the Lightning.
"It was good for us to continue to play over the summer," said Miranda. "I got a lot of at-bats and saw a lot of pitches, and that was great for me."
Ervin posted team-best marks in RBIs (54) and slugging percentage (.531) with the Wolfpack last season, helping lead the squad to both ACC regular season and tournament championships.
