Kader Named New Men's Tennis Assistant Coach

Jeff Kader was officially hired as the new men's tennis assistant coach at NC State on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006. A native of Geneva, Ohio, Kader graduated from William & Mary in 2005 with a degree in kinesiology. A four-year standout on the courts for the Tribe's men's tennis squad, Kader brings a thorough passion and knowledge of the game to the Wolfpack program.
"I've known Jeff Kader for years and I've always had a lot of respect for him," said head men's tennis coach Jon Choboy. "Jeff has the type of character and integrity that we want associated with our program. He exhibited those traits as a player at William & Mary, and they came through during the interview process.
"Jeff is very serious about being in this profession and he knows what he has to do to help NC State continue to grow and climb up the national landscape. He's a young man with a very bright future in this business."
A three-time first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection in singles play, Kader wrapped up his outstanding college career with 85 solo decisions and 84 doubles wins with the Tribe. He was the first William & Mary player to make the NCAA Singles Tournament since 1947, appearing in the field during both of his final two seasons. Kader also won the 2005 Sportsmanship Award at the Blue/Gray Invitational. Recently, Kader has served as a teaching professional/traveling coach at Smith Stearns Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, S.C.
"I'm incredibly excited to be a part of the NC State men's tennis program and working with a great coach like Jon Choboy," said Kader. "We've got a young team and they have really come on strong lately. We're looking to do some damage.
"NC State is a program on the rise. We have all the of facilities, talent and resources necessary to be a top program. I'm looking forward to helping out as the program continues to grow and emerge as one of the best in the country."
Kader will replace Matt Halfpenny, who served as Choboy's assistant for eight years at Brown and NC State. Halfpenny exits the program as his wife, Christine, takes over the reigns as head coach of the William & Mary women's lacrosse program.
"I can't explain how important Matt has been to me, both personally and professionally, over these past eight years," said Choboy. "He was a great assistant coach and he was instrumental in turning around the Wolfpack program, as well as the team at Brown. Matt and his wife are both great people and I wish them nothing but the best in their new endeavors."
