Pope Advances to Finals at NCAA Championships

Raleigh, N.C. - Junior Mitchell Pope of the NC State track and field team advanced to the finals in the shot put during the second day of the 2006 NCAA Outdoor NCAA Championships taking place in Sacramento, California. Pope finished 10th with a top throw of 60'10" during the prelims today, and is one of 12 athletes to advance to Saturday's finals.
On the women's side on Thursday, Jemissa Hess ran in the semifinals of the 1,500 meters, but did not advance to the finals. Hess placed 21st with her time of 4:23.88.
Two members of the NC State track and field team will be competing in the finals tomorrow. Ebony Foster will be in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles at 5:00 p.m. pacific time, while Julia Lucas will run the 5,000 meter finals at 7:00 p.m. pacific time.
