Men's Golf Set to Tee off at NCAA Championships

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's golf team will be competing in the 109th NCAA Championships this Wednesday through Saturday at the Crosswater Golf Course at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon. By virtue of its fifth place finish at the NCAA West Regionals, the Pack has qualified for the NCAA Championships for the 26th time under head coach Richard Sykes. The field will consist of 30 teams and a total of 156 individual players. Each team will play a round of 18 holes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, then Saturday's final round will consist of the top-15 teams and the top-six individuals not on an advancing team.
NC State will be sending the same five golfers that competed at Tucson, Arizona, at the NCAA Regionals. Senior Stephen Lewton, juniors Garry Hill and Jerry Richardson, and freshmen Darren Blair and Nathan Spoon.
The last time the Pack advanced to the NCAA Championships was in 2003, and NC State placed 15th overall. Coach Richard Sykes' top team showing was a sixth place finish in 2002. NC State is one of six ACC schools to reach this years NCAA Championships.
NC State will tee off from the No. 10 hole at 7:50 a.m. pacific time on Wednesday, and in the second round on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. pacific time. For live scoring go to www.golfstat.com.
