Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Season With Annual Awards Banquet

The 2005-06 NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams were honored at the all-sports banquet and at the team banquet for outstanding achievements during the 2005-06 season. Of special note was Cullen Jones winning the universities' HC Kennett Award for the most outstanding male student athlete at NC State. Kendall Smith won the Kay Yow Endowment Award at the all-sports banquet, one of the most prestigious student-athlete awards.
Below is a list of awards that were bestowed on the individuals this season at the various banquets.
From the All-Sports Banquet: :
For a 4.0 GPA: Seth Hoffman, Kendall Smith (11 total athletes)
Kay Yow Endowment Award: Kendall Smith (This annual award is one of NC State's most prestigious athletic awards and is given to the female athlete that most exemplifies outstanding academic achievement, athletic achievement, community service, and team spirit.)
H. C. Kennett Award (As NC State's most outstanding Male Athlete
of the Year):
Cullen Jones
(Jones received the award as NC State's most outstanding Male Athlete
of the Year. Other H. C. Kennett Award winners include Julius Hodge and
Phillip Rivers. The Kennett Family was in attendance to hand out the top
honor. )
From the annual Team Banquet:
Academic Excellence (Top 4 GPAs for each team):
Amy Baskwell, Jenny Bland, Billy Booth, Seth Hoffman, Austin Hampton,
Melissa Jamerino, Kendall Smith, Dan Velez
Coaches Award: Awarded to a male and female that most exemplify
that qualities that the coaching staff deems valuable.

Most Improved Athlete: Awarded to a male and female that
demonstrate the most improvement throughout the course of the season.
Kerry Whitson
Andrew Lester
Most Valuable Diver: Awarded to the diver that contributes
most to the team.
Molly Culberson
Freshman of the Year: Awarded to the freshman that makes the
most impressive transition and contribution to the team in the first
year.
Austin Hampton
Most Valuable Athlete: Awarded to the athletes that
contribute most to the team.
Lindsay Barwegen

Best Performance: Awarded to a male and female with the most
impressive single performance.

Red Legend Pride: Awarded to a male and female that best
represent NC State Swimming & Diving to the team and community.

Hardest Worker: Awarded to a male and female for outstanding
work ethic throughout the course of the season.

A Coaching Note: It was also recently announced that assistant coach Jacqui McLaughlin has been named associate head coach for women's swimming and remains an assistant coach for men's swimming.
