Day Two - Thursday, May 11, 2006

Today we had an early morning wake-up for practice. It is our last day of practice before the NCAA Tournament starts.
As we went around counting the number of people in the lobby, we realized we were missing two teammates, Julia Roach and Neils Barringer. After 10 minutes, we rang their room and relayed to them that they had overslept. Two minutes later, they came charging downstairs, barely awake, racquets in hand, hair a mess, and with nervous looks on their faces. The team greeted them with a laugh and then we were ready to start our day.
We were on the court by 8:30 a.m., where we practiced our doubles and singles play. Our coach's brother helped out with practice to even the numbers and we were able to do specific drills.
On to lunch. We went to a café and then relaxed in the hotel.
The rest of the afternoon was filled with half the team going to Panera Bread, but this time we decided to bring an activity along with us. We stopped at Michael's craft store and picked up art supplies like canvases and paints. At Panera Bread we sat down and created a total of six "masterpieces" called: Harmonious Fusion, Great Escape: Lake Lure, The Daisy, Laze Days, Teardrops, and Meadow. Some of them were abstract and others were right on cue, but all of them expressed something that was important to each one of us.
Then we went to the mall where the team enjoyed buying the same necklaces to get ready in the mentality of our team's competition tomorrow.
Rain sprinkled down on us from time to time, but today was a good balance. Today was a day that gave us enough time to practice, and also enough free time to not pressure ourselves on what was to come. Our team enjoys these times; finding the fun in the everyday.
So I can say that today was fun and tomorrow will be too.
