Wolfpack Meets Five Regional Marks Over Weekend

DURHAM, N.C. - Jemissa Hess regionally qualified in the 800m and the 1500m to lead the NC State outdoor track & field teams in the Duke Invitational, April 7-8, at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C. Julia Lucas and Angelina Blackmon both regionally qualified in the 1500m as well, Lucas taking second with a time of 4:19.83, the fastest in the ACC and second best in the nation this season, and Hess placing third in 4:20.72, the second fastest in the ACC and fourth best in the nation this season. Blackmon took fifth with a career best 4:27.20.
Hess posted a regionally qualifying 2:09.35 for fifth place in the 800m and Blackmon took seventh in 2:10.06. Michele Popple took sixth place in the 3,000m with a time of 9:58.57 and Amy Kelly came in 10th at 10:12.55. Abigail Nelkie ran a career best 4:52.97 in the unseeded 1,500m to finish in ninth place.
Laila Thomas tied for third place in the high jump with a career best 5-7. Mattie Bethea cleared 5-5 to tie for sixth. Tabitha Woodard tied for seventh place in the pole vault with a mark of 11-5.75.
Chris Kollar posted an 8:16.25 in the men's 3,000m for third place and Tibor Vegh ran a 3:48.36 for fifth place in the 1500m. Kevin Hutton ran a 21.59 for eighth place in the 200m and also placed 10th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.84. Reggie Reese finished sixth in the 100m with a 10.88 after running a 10.77 in the prelims.
Meanwhile at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, Mitchell Pope hit a regionally qualifying mark of 57-4.25 for 10th place in the shot put and Dexter Adams reached 23-9 in the long jump for eighth place.

NC State returns to action next weekend when selected individuals will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the Sea Ray Relays, while the rest of the Wolfpack teams will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete in the Carolina Fast Times.
