Kollar Earns All-ACC 1,500m

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Julia Lucas won the ACC Championship in the 5,000m and earned All-ACC honors in the 1,500m to lead NC State in the final day of the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Wake Forest University's Kentner Stadium. She ran a NCAA regional qualifying time of 16:03.07, which ranks seventh fastest in the nation this season, to win the 5K and she took third place in the 1,500m with a regional qualifying time of 4:21.87.
Chris Kollar earned All-ACC honors in the men's 1,500m, running a NCAA regional qualifying time of 3:47.71 for second place. Stephen Furst scored in the 1,500m with a fifth place finish at 3:49.32 and Jemissa Hess scored in the women's 1,500m with a fourth place finish of 4:22.04, regionally qualifying.
Angelina Blackmon ran a 2:08.94 for fourth place in the 800m, scoring for the Wolfpack and missing All-ACC honors by less than three tenths of a second. Laila Thomas scored in the high jump, clearing 5-7 for sixth place.
Kevin Hutton placed seventh in the 400m hurdles, scoring with a time of 56.69. With a sizeable lead heading into final stretch, Hutton's drag foot snagged the top of the last hurdle causing him to fall and costing him the ACC Championship.
Hutton also scored in the 200m with an eighth place finish at 22.57. He also ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay, which included T.J. Sheppard, Reggie Reese and Matt Minnick, scoring with a fourth place finish at 41.26. Reese also scored in the 100m with a sixth place finish in 10.80. Hutton capped off the day by taking the second leg of the 4x400m relay which included Steve Gardner, Armand Quenum and Kevin Kollar placing seventh in 3:16.24.
Bryce Ruiz, Gavin Coombs and John Crews all scored in the 5,000m, finishing 6-8 respectively. Ruiz ran a 14:23.83, Coombs 14:30.49 and Crews came in at 14:32.05.
Mitchell Pope scored in the discus with a throw of 151-5 for eighth place. Jamar Dawson and Ryan Sides finished 9, 10 respectively in the triple jump as Dawson reached 43-6 and Sides recorded a 42-9. Brie Ward finished 10th in the women's discus throw with a mark of 114-8.
The NC State men's team finished in sixth place and the Wolfpack women took ninth. NC State returns to action next weekend when it travels to Philadelphia to compete in the Penn Relays April 26-29.
