RALEIGH, N.C. - Freshman Shona Lee of the NC State women's tennis team was named to the 2006 All-ACC squad on Wednesday, April 19. A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Lee posted a 12-7 (6-5 ACC) mark in her first regular season with the Wolfpack. Currently ranked No. 119 nationally in singles, Lee also notched two wins over a ranked opponent in spring singles, in addition to being named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 20.
"Shona works hard on the tennis court and she is well deserving of this honor from the ACC," said head coach Hans Olsen. "I think it's a great start for her and a sign of things to come as her career continues to improve here."
Lee marks the first member of the team to collect all conference honors since Barbara Orlay was named to the team in 2004. In addition, she stands as the second freshman in program history to receive the distinction.
NC State will hit the courts tomorrow, Thursday, April 20, as the No. 9 seed against No. 8 seed Maryland at the ACC Championships in Cary, N.C. The match is slated to begin at 9 a.m. at the Cary Tennis Center.
