NC State (38-17) will head to Elon to face the Phoenix (19-20) in a non-conference doubleheader on Wed., Apr. 19. The two teams will square off at 3 and 5 p.m., and Elon leads the all-time series, 5-0. NC State is led on offense by Jen Chamberlin, Miranda Ervin, and Shanna Smith's record breaking seasons and by the pitching of Abbie Sims, Shaina Ervin and Megan Dalthorp, who each rank in the top-10 of the ACC in ERA.
NC State is fresh off of a series win over Florida State by taking two-of-three from the Seminoles. Abbie Sims hit two home runs in the second game of the doubleheader and pitched a four-hit shutout in the opener as the Wolfpack sealed the series with two early wins. Sims needs just six strikeouts to move into seventh all-time in career strikeouts in the ACC. The junior currently has 755.
Jen Chamberlin hit a home run in the top of the ninth for her tenth of the season and ACC-leading seventh in conference games. She now has 33 career homeruns, tied for fourth all-time in ACC history. She has now hit 10 or more home runs in each of her first three seasons.
Miranda Ervin already has seven home runs and 39 RBIs, both career-highs, and is just two RBIs short of the Wolfpack single season record set by Chamberlin a year ago. Chamberlin could very well break her own mark as well, as she sits on 34 RBIs.
Smith has set school records with 24 stolen bases in a single season and a career stolen base percentage of .868. She is also hitting .280, third on the team, and is second with 44 hits. Her seven doubles also rank second, and her four home runs are fifth on the team. She leads the team in triples with three as well.
Shaina Ervin has been impressive from the circle, ranking seventh in the ACC with a 1.72 ERA and has the leagues best record in conference games only, going 7-0.
NC State will travel to Charlottesville, Va. this weekend for a three-game set with the Virginia Cavaliers, before closing the regular season Apr. 27-28 against North Carolina.
