Hutton, Lucas, Pope, Reese Regionally Qualify

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Kevin Hutton, Julia Lucas, Mitchell Pope and Reggie Reese all met NCAA Regional Championships qualifying requirements to lead the NC State outdoor track & field teams at various meets this weekend. Lucas ran a 16:03.82 for 11th place in the 5,000m at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., the fastest time in the ACC this season and the fifth-best time in the nation. Hutton took seventh place in the 400m hurdles at the Sea Ray Relays on Friday in Knoxville, Tenn., with a time of 52.24, the fastest in the ACC this season. Reese raced to a 10.33 in the 100m for third place at the Sea Rey Relays and Pope won the shot put at the Carolina Fast Times Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C., with a mark of 58-11.5.
Joya Rodgers posted a career best in the 100m at the Sea Ray Relays with a 11.87 for 23rd place and T.J. Sheppard missed the regional qualifying mark in the men's 100m by five hundredths of a second, taking 19th place with a 10.55.
Cassandra Williams placed seventh in the 100m at the Carolina Fast Times with a time of 12.52 and 10th in the 200m with a time of 25.33. Georgia Davis took fourth place in the 1,500m with a time of 4:40.82 and Jennifer Boyd came in fifth at 4:43.26. Ginger Wheeler ran a 4:48.54 to finish ninth.
Jennifer Webster snagged a fourth place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.84, while Laila Thomas and Mattie Bethea placed eighth and ninth respectively. Bethea tied for first place in the high jump with a mark of 5-6 and Webster tied Thomas for third place at 5-4.25. Tabitha Woodard cleared 11-11.75 in the pole vault for third place.
Alicia Davis finished eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.08 and Marilyn Angell placed ninth in 1:09.97. Angell also took ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 36-7.75.
Thomas reached 17-8 in the long jump for seventh place and Shanelle Cross tied for ninth at 17-6.25. Brie Ward reached 146-2 in the hammer throw for fifth place and took ninth in the discus with a mark of 126-11.
Fredy Torres ran a 3:58.05 for fourth place in the men's 1,500m and John Henderson placed sixth with a 3:59.82.
Dexter Adams finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 21-5.5. Ryan Sides and Jamar Dawson placed ninth and tenth respectively in the triple jump.
Chris Crawford placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 50-6.25 and sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 162-6. Pope took third in the discus with a heave of 150-1 and second in the hammer with a mark of 171-7.
NC State returns to action next weekend when the Wolfpack travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., to compete in the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships April 20-22 at Wake Forest University's Kentner Stadium.
