Pope, Blackmon Regionally Qualify At Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Angelina Blackmon regionally qualified in the 800m with a time of 2:09.11 for second place and Mitchell Pope won the shot put with a regionally qualifying mark of 59-3.5 to lead the NC State outdoor track & field teams at the Charlotte Invitational Saturday on the University of North Carolina-Charlotte's Irwin Belk Track.
The night before, at the Stanford Invitational in the Stanford, Calif., John Crews ran a 29.38.05 in the 10,000m for 28th place. Also at the Stanford Invitational, Ginger Wheeler placed eighth in the women's 10,000m with a time of 35:20.32.
Back in Charlotte, Georgia Davis finished sixth in the 800m with a career-best time of 2:14.89. Kristina Roth placed fourth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:38.69, Amy Kelly finished sixth in 4:40.71, Michele Popple came in eighth at 4:44.63 and Jennifer Boyd crossed the finish line ninth with a time of 4:48.06.
Joya Rodgers took third in the 100m dash with a time of 11.94. The Wolfpack placed eighth in the women's 4x100m relay with a time of 48.20 and finished sixth in the women's 4x400m relays with a time of 3:56.43.
Mattie Bethea cleared 5-7 in the high jump to tie for fifth place and Laila Thomas tied for seventh place at 5-5. Bethea reached a career best 18-7 in the long jump for third place and Thomas tied placed ninth at 17-5.5. Tabitha Woodard cleared 11-5.75 in the pole vault to tie for sixth place.
T.J. Sheppard finished ninth in the 100m with a time of 10.89. Steve Gardner placed eighth in the 400m with a time of 49.95. Kevin Hutton took fifth place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.99. NC State was the runner-up in the men's 4x100m relay with a time of 41.40 and placed third in the men's 4x400m relay with at time of 3:14.52.
Chris Crawford hit 53-8.5 for third place in the shot put, 139-10 in the discus throw for sixth place and 176-2 in the hammer throw for fourth place. Pope reached 148-11 for fourth place in the discus and 177-8 for third in the hammer.
