The Wolfpack (12-6) softball team improved to 3-0 at the Buzz Classic with a 16-2 win over the Gardner Webb Bulldogs (2-9). The 16 runs scored set a school record as NC State batted around in the first and second innings. Miranda Ervin drove in four runs, including a three-run home run, as 12 different players collected hits for the Pack. Abbie Sims (8-3) started and pitched three innings for the win, striking out seven and allowing two runs on one hit.
The Bulldogs smacked a two-run home run in the first off of Sims for a short-lived lead.
NC State answered with six runs in the first thanks in part to a RBI double from Sims and a RBI single from Heather Gelbard.
Eight more runs went on the board in the second for the Wolfpack as it built a commanding lead. Miranda Ervin hit a three-run blast and a RBI single in the inning as NC State batted around in the frame.
Shaina Ervin pitched the last two innings in relief and allowed one hit while fanning four batters.
Laura Klem and Lisa Gott saw their first action of the season with both players scoring a run. Mackenzie Mangum had her first hit and RBI in her career in the contest as NC State used 19 of its 21 players in the game.
