NC State's Cullen Jones was named ACC Swimmer of the Year after a standout senior season in the pool. Jones won the NCAA title in the 50 freestyle and took his third straight ACC Championship in the same event, winning ACC Championship Meet MVP as well. Jones swam an ACC-record 19.07 to win the 50 free title, two-hundreths of a second off the American record, at the ACC Championships and won the NCAA title with a 19.18.
Jones became just the second Wolfpack swimmer to win ACC Swimmer of the Year and Meet MVP in the same season, joining David Fox in 1993. Fox also won the NCAA title in the 50 free that season, the last time a NC State swimmer won a national championship.
Jones will head to Shanghai, China next week for the FINA World Swimming Championships as he competes in the 50-meter freestyle and has a shot to swim in two relays.
