Wolfpack Finish 21st at NCAA Championships

NC State wrapped up the men's NCAA Swimming championship in 21st place, garnering 28 team points to tie the best finish in the NCAA since 1979. The 2000 Wolfpack team also finished 21st, a season before current head coach Brooks Teal took over the program. It was the first time since 2000 and 2001 that the Wolfpack went to back-to-back NCAA championships. Cullen Jones won the national championship in the 50 freestyle and finishes the season with the top 50-free time in the country, a 19.07, two-hundreths of a second off of the American record. Steven Cowling, Dan Velez, Kevin Velleca and Jones comprised NC State's participants in the meet.
The four scored eight points with a strong finish in the consolation final of the 200 medley relay, and Jones secured 20 points with his championship swim.
The championships wrapped up on Saturday, with Dan Velez swimming a 2:04.87 in the 200 breaststroke in his final collegiate NCAA meet. He holds the school record in the 200 breast and is second all-time in the 100 breast.
Kevin Velleca also swam and individual event on Saturday,
Cullen Jones swam a 44.23 in the 100 free prelims, his third fastest time this season.
