Prelims went okay this morning, with the guys all wishing they had been a little faster in the pool. They swam slower than at ACCs, but at least we still know what they are capable of.
The 200 medley relay will score some points today, as they swim in the consolation final tonight at around 7 p.m. Their prelim swim of 1:28.09 wasn't faster than their ACC record 1:26.88, but it was good enough for the 14th seed in tonights final.
Individually, Dan Velez swam the 100 breast in a time of 55.54 to finish 27th, a time that ranks sixth in Wolfpack swimming history.
Kevin Velleca also swam well in the 100 back, coming in at 49.54 in the event for a 26th place finish.
Both men will kick off the relay with Steven Cowling (butterfly) and Cullen Jones (freestyle) finishing the last two legs.
NC State was in 15th with 20 points coming in to the event, so with a strong finish they should move up in the standings as the top-ACC team at the event.
