Crews, Pope Regionally Qualify In First Day Of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - John Crews regionally qualified in the 5,000m and Mitchell Pope regionally qualified in the shot put to lead the NC State outdoor track & field teams in the first day of its annual home meet at Paul Derr Track, the Raleigh Relays. The Wolfpack won the women's 4x1500m relay with a time of 18:06.08, breaking a 20-year-old school record by nearly five seconds.
Joya Rodgers placed eighth in the women's 100m preliminary with a time of 12.11 to qualify for Saturday's finals and Reggie Reese qualified for the finals in the men's 100m with a fourth place sprint of 10.80 in the prelims.
Crews's regional qualifying time in the 5,000m was a career best 14:07.03 for fourth place. Fredy Torres placed 10th in the 5K with a time of 14:27.28 and Bryce Ruiz took 13th in 14:31.32.
Kevin Hutton finished eighth in the 400m hurdles with a career best time of 54.15.
Dexter Adams reached 23-6.25 in the long jump for fifth place.
Pope's regional qualifying mark in the shot put was 58-6.75, good for second place. Chris Crawford finished fifth with a career best mark of 54-1.75.
