Heading into the second half of our season there is much optimism ahead. The basketball tournament has started so championship play is in the air everywhere. We are doing our annual bracket competition among our team. Although the kids can not win anything, it is a fun competition. How the kids pick teams is pretty funny. Some pick because of the colors a team wears and others pick by studying ESPN. Sadly enough, the uniform color kids usually end up winning our brackets!
We open this weekend with Boston College and this is their first year in our conference. I am sure they are excited to be in the ACC, but so are we. I can't believe sometimes that we are starting our 3rd year of play as a program. I really feel we have a great shot at winning the conference. It is going to be a dog fight with every team and we have won 22 games and haven't played that well so far this season.
We had a good week of rest, practice, lifting and getting back to our usual routine. Life will be different when our field is completed. Just an update on the progress. The bids on the field for construction go out in April and the construction is slated to begin in June 2006. The site for the field is ideal. It is right across the street from Reynolds Coliseum next to our track. I am looking forward to the student body being able to attend the games on campus. Right now we are at Walnut Creek in Raleigh. The Raleigh Parks and Recreation department have been wonderful housing us for these 3 seasons. I will miss the crew that works the game and the slow-pitch fans that stop by the games. But I must say I will be ecstatic to Dail Field facility done.
Our offices have just been completed in the basement of Reynolds Coliseum. The locker room is in the last phase of the building. It should be completed sometime in April. It will be nice having the players, weight room and training room all in one facility. Reynolds will house women's basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and us. Our players have had to be very patient with the building of the program. I have appreciated there perseverance through every turn. The quote reads "Good things will come to those who wait"...I am waiting, and keep bringing on the good things!
