Lewton Shoots Par In Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Stephen Lewton shot par in the first round of the Puerto Rico Classic to lead the NC State men's golf team Sunday at the Rio Mar Country Club's par 72 River Course. The Wolfpack is in 11th place at five over and Lewton is tied for 25th individually.
Darren Blair trails Lewton by one stroke and is tied for 34th after 18 holes while Jerry Richardson and Nathan Spoon are both two over and tied for 38th. Taylor Crosby fired three over in the first round and is tied for 51st.
Alabama came in eight under in the first round to take a two stroke lead on a talented 18-team field which features 16 teams ranked in the top 44, 10 in the top 20 and the nation's top four. Brendon Todd from Georgia carded an opening round 68 and is in first place.
Competition continues Monday with a second round of 18 holes and the tournament concludes Tuesday with the third and final round. Complete results are available at www.purduesports.com.
