Shaina Ervin won her second start of the season as NC State (9-4) won for the eighth time in nine games. Shanna Smith hit a two-run home run and Jen Chamberlin had an RBI triple as the Wolfpack downed Georgia Southern, 5-2. NC State scored all five of its runs with two outs and the Eagles (5-10) were held to one hit through four innings.

NC State took the early lead with three runs in the third with a two-out rally. Lisa Nentwig got hit with a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tess Corona. Heather Gelbard singled through the right side to drive in Nentwig for a 1-0 lead with two outs. Smith followed with a two-run bomb to centerfield, her first of the season, to make it 3-0 Wolfpack.

Ervin (2-0) pitched a one-hitter into the fifth inning and allowed two runs on four hits, the first runs she has given up this season. She struck out seven batters in the complete game.

NC State would put two more runs on the board in the fifth inning with another two-out rally in support of Ervin. Abbie Sims singled hard up the middle to keep the inning alive. Jen Chamberlin laced a triple down the right field line to drive in Sims for a 4-0 lead, and Chamberlin came around to score off of a passed ball for a five run advantage.

The Eagles added two runs in the fifth on back-to-back hits.

Melissa Laliberte (2-3) took the loss for the Eagles as she surrendered five runs - four earned - on five hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.

NOTE: Due to torrential rain in the Columbia, S.C. area, the Gamecock Invitational's schedule has been altered. NC State will play South Carolina at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 26 an then Fordham at 2:30 p.m.
