NC State's Cullen Jones was named the ACC's Most Valuable Swimmer after a record setting week at the ACC Championships. Jones' won his second individual championship of the 2006 ACC meet with a win in the 100 freestyle to up his career tally to five individual titles and two relay wins. Jones broke the ACC record in the 50 freestyle on Thursday, swimming a 19.07 to win the event for the third straight year. He won the 100 freestyle as a sophomore in 2004. He was just the second NC State swimmer to ever win meet MVP, as Olymipic Gold Medalist David Fox won the award in 1991 and 1993.
Jones' time of 19.07 is just two hundredths off of the American record of 19.05. He was the anchor leg of the ACC record setting 200 medley relay for the second straight season, and his time of 18.42 was unofficially the fastest time in NCAA history.
