Bethea Takes Sixth In Pentathlon

BLACKSBURG, Va. - NC State opened competition at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships Thursday in Virginia Tech's Rector Field House and Mattie Bethea put the Wolfpack on the board with a sixth place finish in the pentathlon, scoring for NC State. Her score of 3530 is a career best and Laila Thomas and Christie Black both recorded career best performances in the pentathlon as well.
Thomas tied for first place in the high jump section of the pentathlon, clearing 5-6 and Bethea cleared 5-5 to tie for third. Bethea also took third in the long jump portion, reaching a career best 18-7.25. She then hit a career best in the shot put with a seventh place heave of 36-4.
After one event, NC State's women are in fifth place of seven teams with three points. The ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships continue tomorrow and conclude Saturday.
