AUBURN, Ala. - NC State (1-1) couldn't generate offense against Evansville (2-0) on a cold and rainy night at the Auburn Invitational. The Purple Aces won 1-0, getting a sixth inning RBI single for the only run of the game. Four Wolfpack players collected hits, and Megan Dalthorp lost for only the second time in her seven career starts after allowing eight hits and no walks while striking out a pair.
The Wolfpack left six runners on base in the contest, including three in the final two innings.
Shanna Smith hit a double in the first inning for the lone extra base hit of the game, and Heather Gelbard, Abbie Sims and Ashleigh Davis each collected hits.
NC State returns with two more games on Saturday in Auburn, Ala. as it takes on No. 17/20 Auburn (2-0) at 3 p.m. and Miami of Ohio (1-1) at 5:30 p.m.
