BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - There's one more honor for North Carolina State swimmer Cullen Jones.
Jones, the first black male swimmer to set a world record for the United States, was chosen as breakout performer of the year last night at the Golden Goggle award.
Jones won his first national title in the 50 freestyle in August.
He shared the relay performance of the year award for swimming as part of the victorious 400 free relay at Pan Pacs. Jones, along with Michael Phelps, Neil Walker and Jason Lezak, gave the United States its first world record in the event since 1995.
Phelps' world records in the 200-meter butterfly and 400 freestyle relay earned him two Golden Goggle awards, given by U-S-A Swimming to the year's top American performers.
