Raleigh, N.C. - NC State softball head coach Lisa Navas has announced that six student-athletes have signed letters of intent to join the Wolfpack softball program. Alyssa Allbritten, Alyson Burr, Lindsay Campana, Bridget Desbois, Lacey Holm and Alyssa Ishibashi will join the Pack for the 2007-08 academic year. The signing class offers power and skill to Navas' roster, which will lose nine seniors at the end of this season.
"It is hard to believe that our first freshman class is graduating after this year," said Navas. "Now we are taking the program into the next phase. Although we are young, we now have expectations to live up to. I am excited about this class. They got along great on their visits and they love what the future holds for them. Much of the credit goes to our players and assistant coach Jay Pyron for getting this class."
Allbritten, a native of Palm Harbor, Fla., will see action both behind the plate and in the outfield. Standing as one of the best defensive catchers in the country, Allbritten works well behind the plate at controlling pitchers, according to Navas. She has prep experience with Team Florida and will play with the Shamrocks Gold squad from Virginia next summer.
Burr, a local hard-throwing hurler from Wake Forest, N.C., will work from the mound for the Pack, as well as in the outfield. She has enjoyed illustrious prep playing experience with the Triangle Lightning.
Campana comes to the Pack after a year at Cuesta College in San Louis Obispo, Calif. She joins the red and white with three years of eligibility remaining. An accomplished drop ball pitcher, Campana's determination and work ethic caught the eye of the Wolfpack staff. Campana competes with the California Diamonds club team.
A native of McLean, Va., Desbois comes in as a third baseman with a strong arm and good range. Desbois, a Shamrocks Gold club teammate of Allbritten, will offer valuable depth and skill to the Wolfpack infield.
Holm will figure into the Pack's plans for behind the plate and first base. She makes the trek to Raleigh via Salem, Ore. A powerful hitter in the box, Holm serves as a solid defensive catcher with a vast knowledge of the game. Holm plays club ball with the Oregon Panthers.
Ishibashi can play multiple positions in the infield and outfield. Hailing from Valencia, Calif., she will provide depth all over the diamond as a solid utility player. Ishibashi competes with the Valley Breeze club program.
"It seems like it was just yesterday that I started with nine freshmen," Navas said. "Wow, that was four years ago now. Time flies when you're having fun."
The reigning Atlantic Coast Conference regular season and tournament champions will begin their quest for a repeat performance at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C., Friday, Feb. 9 through Sunday, Feb. 11. The Pack will begin ACC play on Saturday, March 3, hosting Florida State in a doubleheader.
