Women's Swimming and Diving Nipped by Richmond

The NC State women’s swimming and diving (2-1) lost for the first time this season as they fell to Richmond in a non-conference meet Friday night. Kerry Whitson won the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle to lead the Wolfpack in its first road foray. Lucy Lindsey, Leeann Laing and Emily Cheffins each won an event and the Wolfpack also won the 200 free relay.
Lindsay Barwegen finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:15.88, the sixth fastest time in the ACC this season. Lauren Cranston (10:30.66) and Maresa Like-Matthews (10:34.43) finished second and third, respectively, for a Wolfpack 2-3-4 sweep.
Whitson won the 200 free in the next event with a time of 1:54.66 and later won the 500 free in a time of 5:04.69.
Laing won the 200 fly in a time of 2:10.92 for her first event win of the season. Freshman diver Cheffins won the 1-meter with a score of 306.98, the top mark in the conference.
Lindsey won the 100 free with a time of 53.61.
Another freshman diver, Chelsea Ale, won the 3-meter competition with a score of 285.45 and Cheffins finished second with a score, 285.23.
In the 200 freestyle relay, NC State won the event with the third fastest time in the conference with a time 1:39.07. Patrice Dason, Melissa Jamerino, Lucy Lindsay and Kerry Whitson turned in the time for the team.
