Men's Swim & Dive Hosts Tennessee Saturday
10/27/2006 12:00:00 AM | Swimming
NC State men’s swimming and diving team will host Tennessee in the season opening match for the Wolfpack men. The team is coming off of a 6-3 overall mark and a 5-1 record against ACC opponents last season, and will look to replace the departure of three All-Americans - National champion Cullen Jones, Dan Velez and Kevin Velleca. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Casey Aquatics Center on Saturday, Oct. 28.
The team does return three-time All-ACC performer Steve Cowling, the ACC Champion in the 100 backstroke in 2005. Cowling is one of the more versatile and talented swimmers on the team, as he could compete in the fly, back and freestyle events as well as holding down a spot in virtually every relay.
The meet will also mark the debut of Stephen Mellor, who was ineligible last season in his first year in Raleigh due to NCAA rules, but he broke the school record - twice - in the 200 back in official time trials.
In addition, NC State will break in 11 new freshmen who will look to add depth and scoring across the lineups.
