The NC State women’s swimming and diving team (2-0) will travel to Richmond, Va. to face the Richmond Spiders in non-conference action Friday evening. The Wolfpack is fresh off of a sweep of Gardner-Webb and Campbell at home last weekend as the team hits the road until returning to the Casey Aquatics Center on January 13.
NC State was led by its divers against Gardner-Webb and Campbell, as three divers - Chelsea Ale, Natalie Swisher and Emily Cheffins - qualified for NCAA Diving Zones in the first meet of the season. Cheffins won the 3-meter competition with a score of 291.15, the second highest mark in the conference this season. Ale took the 1-meter boards with a ACC top time of 302.70, while Swisher (300.975) finished second and Cheffins (296.945) took third to qualify.
Senior Kerry Whitson won the 200 freestyle and has the eighth fastest time in the ACC so far this season with a 1:53.20. Whitson finished third in the event last season to earn All-ACC accolades.
A pair of freshmen turned in impressive performances in the individual medley relay events as Anna Linkenauger (2:08.23, 7th) and Sarah Merritt (2:10.31, 10th) placed times in the ACC top-10.
