The NC State women's golf team was solid and steady for three rounds this weekend at the Wildcat Fall Invitational and it paid off, as the team finished third in the field. Lauren Doughtie finished tied for second in the field after a final round 70 while freshman Kathleen Strandberg made her case for playing time by finishing tied for 14th in her first collegiate tournament. Stephanie Derrey and Nancy Mountcastle tied for 21st as the squad tallied a 937 to finish eight strokes behind champion Memphis.
Doughtie was strong all weekend despite tough playing conditions the first day. She was outstanding in the final round with a 70, the top score among players in the tournament all weekend. Her score of 226 included rounds of 79 and 77 in the first two rounds, respectively.
Strandberg finished in 14th with a 79-78-79=236 and was the only other Wolfpack player with all three rounds being 79 or lower.
Derrey (80-79-79=238) and Mountcastle (78-81-79=238) tied for 21st. Jessica Vincent posted rounds of 80-81-78 for a 54-hole total of 239.
Freshman Emily Street competed as an individual and finished 50th after a third-round 77 gave him a final 245 score.
