COLUMBIA, SC -
The Wolfpack Women's Swimming and Diving team fell on the road against South Carolina 135-103 on Saturday in the team's return to action following the Christmas break. The Pack only managed to win four of the meet's 13 events as the Gamecocks swam off with the victory 135-103.
The team did get clutch performances from several of the team's key members despite the posted times showing signs of holiday break. Lindsay Barwegen nabbed the top spot in the 1000 Freestyle swimming away from South Carolina's Amanda Dunnigan and finishing with a time of 10:08.40.
Freshman Lucy Lindsey and her teammate Kerry Whitson took first and second in the meet's third event the 200 Freestyle as the team tried to make a comeback in the early going with South Carolina finishing in the top two spots of the point-heavy relays. Lindsey took first with a time of 1:54.27 with Whitson touching in a close second in 1:54.74. Whitson also put in a very strong performance in the 500 Freestyle, swimming a time of 5:04.73 and winning the event for the Pack.
Wolfpack veteran Jess Koenig had a strong showing for the Pack with several second place finishes that helped keep the Wolfpack in the meet. She took second in the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Backstroke posting times of 2:07.53 in the Medley and 2:06.69 in the Backstroke.
Diving's Molly Culberson suffered her first defeat of the year in both the one-meter and three-meter events. Culberson put up a very strong score of 308.48 in the one-meter event; however she was edged out by South Carolina's Allison Brennan who scored 311.70. Culberson also posted a very respectable score of 328.73 in the three-meter event, just some five points off of her season high which is 333.52 and third best in the ACC. She took fourth in the event, her lowest finish of the year, as three Gamecock divers scored in the 330-plus point range.
