NC State has not lost at Wake Forest since Jan. 23, 1996. Sophomore Khadijah Whittington may be leading in the team in rebounds with 8.5 caroms per appearances, but she is also riding a five-game double-figure scoring streak and is second in the ACC in offensive rebounds with 3.54 a game. About Wake Forest
Perhaps the key word for Wake Forest is consistency. After its point guard, Porsche Jones injured her achilles, the Demon Deacons have gone to Cotelia Bond-Young to lead the squad and she has done just that. The senior point guard is averaging a Deacons' best 17.5 ppg and leads the team in assists with 51 total, or an average of 4.25 a game. She is also leading the ACC in three-pointers made per game after posting 2.92 an outing. Wake has lost two of its last three, including the ACC season opener at No. 2 Duke, 100-54 on Jan. 2. A win over SEC opponent Kentucky sandwiched the Duke loss and a loss at Richmond on Dec. 28. Senior Liz Strunk is also carrying some scoring weight with her 15.2 ppg, while freshman Deidre Naughton is third on the squad with 12.5 ppg and leads the team in rebounding with her 5.8 boards per contest. The third, fourth and fifth leading scorers are all underclassmen. Behind Naughton, freshman Corinne Groves is averaging 6.3 ppg and sophomore Tara Tate is dropping in 3.8 ppg. In its five losses, Wake has been outscored by an average of 21.2 ppg. Two big losses, which included a 31-point defeat versus St. John's on Dec. 2 and the 46-point loss at Duke were the largest margins.
All-Time vs. ACC and WFU
NC State and head coach Kay Yow are 296-165 all-time (since 77-78 year) against the 12 teams of the Atlantic Coast Conference and are 51-6 all-time against Wake Forest, including a 22-3 record in Winston-Salem. Yow is 50-6 all-time versus Wake, after missing out on the first meeting with the Demon Deacons in 1975. The Wolfpack is also 158-50 all-time against ACC teams at home and 117-83. The last regular season loss to an ACC opponent was to then No. 8 North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Feb. 20, 2005 and the last loss at home was also to No. 8 North Carolina on Jan. 14, 2005. However the Wolfpack finished the year with three wins over ACC opponents in Reynolds. The Wolfpack swept the Demon Deacons last season. Associate Head Coach Stephanie Glance, who was in charge while head coach Kay Yow was ill with the flu, coached the win on the road, Feb. 24.
